Dyami, who had not sat back down, shook his head, looking mildly amused. "Oh most definitely not, miss Grey." He indicated his separate group again. "We are from another world, we eneded up on your island due to a rather unfortunate mishap, and we're hoping that due your position (whatever that is) you might be in possession of a book or an artifact or information on a way for us to get back where he belongs." He said, gesturing to Taman. "Also lunch." Aidan added. Dyami sent him a look. "Just the assistance in returning to Reme would be fine." Aidan's ears flicked back. "But I'm hungry." Taman stared at Dyami. "Is he ever /not/ hungry?" "No." Dyami responded dryly. "Not to my knowledge."

Teak rolled his eyes. "Never mind, sorry I asked. Should've known you wouldn't have anything helpful to say."
The woman frowned. "An entirely separate matter from them... I wasn't expecting more people. No one's really taken much of an interest in this island before." She shook her head as if dislodging a thought, and took a seat on yet another armchair, breezing past both Dyami and Anath, who had also stood up upon her entrance. "So. One matter at a time, then." She looked towards Anath and Teak. "You're from the mainland? The first group?"
Anath smiled, taking his seat again. "Yes, I am from the Iman Desert but my friend is from the north, Lady -- "
"No. /Not/ Lady." The woman said, her tone suddenly sharp. "I am no one's lady, and I am damn sure no kind of goddess or anything of the sort."
Anath blinked, taken somewhat aback. "Ah... of course. My apologies."
The woman eyed him warily. "I don't know quite what the mainland thinks of my role on this island, but I don't need this "lady" business. Just Karan is fine. Karan Grey, thank you."
Teak shrugged. "Fair enough. So...what, exactly, /is/ going on with your island? Just a few years ago it was in total disrepair, and people back home noticed the change, y'know."
Karan switched her gaze to Teak. "And they think it's me?"
Teak shrugged. "Listen, all I know is that you make people nervous."
"Change is feared by those in power even in the best of times, and the Imani are just starting to recover from war and civil unrest." Anath said, leaning back in his seat. "Recent events have made them particularly wary of developments even this far from home, I'm afraid."
"Yes, well. I don't care for anything on the mainland. I came here to get away from the main continent, and all I was looking for here was a decent enough place to live, and..." Karan struggled, searching for the right words. "And things happened, sort of got in the way. I don't know. It's...I don't know. I don't. Only that this is my home now, and that's all I care about. Fair enough?" She turned towards Dyami. "Now then. What's your entirely separate matter, then?" She narrowed her eyes. "/You/ don't think I'm a goddess or a witch or a saint or none of that, do you?"

"Oh, no Ah've seen golems before. You're in the presence of one right now." Taman said smoothly, looking extremely amused.
"Bit of odd circumstances." Dyami said, standing respectfully. "But the matter the three of us have to present." He indicated himself, Aidan, and Taman. "Is quite separate from theirs."

Anath pinched the bridge of his nose, already wanting a cigarette. "Why couldn't the golem have just turned us away at the door so I could go home?"
Teak shrugged, sinking down into a decidedly dusty armchair. "Your bosses would just have made you come back later, it's not much of a reprieve."
Anath rolled his eyes. "Oh, I know all too well. Just allow me to entertain the fantasy, would you?"
Teak glanced at Taman, rather bemused. "It's just a golem. If you think it's that impressive, you should see Sofia's house on the mainland. All her servants are golems, and there's at least twenty five of the damn things milling about."
The door opened, and a woman with long blond hair falling over her shoulders in loose waves entered, stopped, and blinked. "Oh. I see Klein wasn't exaggerating. There ARE quite a few of you here. How... odd."

Dyami settled into an armchair and Aidan inexplicably sat down on the couch near Anath. "Nice house." He commented, but his ears were back and he looked uncomfortable. "Very solid." Dyami commented. Taman nudged him before taking another armchair. "Golem." "I will hit you." Dyami responded, refusing to look at the vampire. Aidan looked confused. "What's he on about?" "I'll tell you later." Dyami said, waving it off.

"Yes." The golem rumbled simply, glancing at Aidan. It regarded Taman and Dyami solemnly. "I will go talk to the lady. This was not the agreed-upon party number. My mistress will decide whether this is an acceptable change or not." The door slammed as the golem disappeared back into the depths of house.
After several minutes, the door reopened and the golem impassively allowed the entire party inside, though it glanced down at Dyami, Taman, and Aidan more than once as they passed. The golem silently led them down the rather gloomy hallway to an empty room off the main hallway dominated by several couches and armchairs. "Wait here. The lady will be along shortly."
Anath sighed and took a seat on one of the couches. "I can already tell this will be a lovely visit."

Taman eyed the golem and then raised an eyebrow at Dyami, a smirk coming to his face. Dyami ignored him in favor of addressing the golem. "There has been a slight change to the party number due to unforeseen events." Taman nudged Dyami in the ribs, the smile not leaving his face. Dyami thwacked Taman in the shin with his cane as discreetly as it was possible to do so. "You're very tall." Aidan commented, tilting his head back to look at the golem.

Teak glanced at Dyami. "Your loss, then. Sleep IS nice sometimes, I've gotta agree."
"Yes, well, you can debate the topic all you want later, we DO have somewhere we need to be and I'm already growing tired of being on this island." Anath said briskly, plucking Teak's book from his hands. "Which means you have to put down the book for now and come be marginally personable."
Teak sent him a look. "Fine, fine. Not like I want to be here either. Let's go talk to this woman and get out of here. She's somewhere on the east end of the island, right?"
"It's a big house overlooking most of the city here. I doubt it will be difficult to find." Anath said wryly, heading out the door, Teak's book still in hand. Teak rolled his eyes and followed.
As expected, they found the house with ease. Teak stepped up to the door and knocked politely, only to be met with an enormous golem the color of sun-dried clay. "May I assist you, gentlemen?" the golem rumbled, sounding surprisingly genteel.
"We have an appointment with the lady." Anath said smoothly.
The golem looked their group over. "All of you? I do not remember so many appointments."

"Actually neither Taman nor myself sleep at all." Dyami commented absently. Aidan crawled into a chair and curled up into it, looking extremely pleased with himself. "Sleeping is nice sometimes." he mumbled, looking as if he'd rather like to sleep his meal off. "Don't we have somewhere to be?" Taman asked, looking annoyed. "I, for one, would like to get back home as soon as possible. Before my wife destroys my kingdom."

Anath finished the last bite of his pastry and stood up. "Yes, that sounds like a good plan. And if he is still not up, Aidan has full permission to go jump on him." He handed a few coins to the waitress and started back to the inn.
Inside, Teak was once again happily settled at a table with a book, reading. He glanced up as the group entered. "Oh, so that's where everyone is." He glanced at Anath. "I figured you wouldn't be around, but not everyone else too."
Anath smirked. "Obviously, you sleep too late."
Teak rolled his eyes. "It isn't even that late, barely midmorning by my count. You just get up insanely early."
